What is an ABC Label?
ABC Commercial is the commercial division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Through our consumer publishing activities ABC Commercial releases hundreds of titles each year. These include audio (spoken word) CDs, books, contemporary music, classical music and DVDs.
These six publishing areas - or labels - release titles which may have been broadcast or featured on ABC Television or ABC Radio to "inform, educate and entertain all Australians".
Through the ABC's special relationship with the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) ABC Audio and ABC Video & DVD also output numerous BBC titles each year such as Dr Who, Yes Minister, As Time Goes By to name a few.
ABC Audio
ABC Audio release spoken word titles on both CD and cassette. There are over 400 titles available on this label including such favourites as 'A Fortunate Life'; 'Cattle King'; 'Mem Fox Magic'; 'Rabbit Proof Fence', 'Henry Lawson', 'My Brilliant Career', 'Deltora Quest', 'Play School' and so on.
ABC Books
ABC Books, our very own book publishing label, has been producing books for more than 30 years. With more than 100 titles being published each year, ABC Books offers a wide range of non-fiction titles and children’s books that are sold through the retail trade as well as ABC Shops and ABC Centres.
ABC Contemporary Music
With over 800 titles currently available ABC Music releases titles under a number of sub-labels. These include ABC For Kids, ABC Country, ABC Jazz, ABC Classics & Fly Music. In addition ABC also release titles under the Triple J banner.
ABC Classics
ABC Classics was founded in 1987. Since then, the label has grown to a catalogue of over 400 titles in various genres from classic and historic to music theatre, soundtrack and jazz. ABC Classics has won many awards including the Australian Record Industry Association (ARIA) Award for Best Classical Album 13 times since the inception of the awards 16 years ago. They have also been awarded numerous Gold and Platinum records for high sales achievement.
ABC DVD
ABC DVD is a division of ABC Commercial, the commercial arm of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. The ABC DVD catalogue consists of a wide range of ABC productions as well as a wealth of other Australian and international programs.
ABC Magazines
Formed in 2003 as a division of ABC Commercial, ABC Magazines is currently releasing titles in the food, gardening, classical music and ABC for Kids categories.
ABC Video
ABC Video is the most highly awarded Australian video company, having earned numerous multi-platinum, double-platinum, platinum and gold sales awards. ABC Video's continued ability to meet the growing demand for quality home entertainment is highlighted by strong retail sales in the fields of documentary, comedy, children's and music categories.
