Australian GST
ABC Shops have prepared this page for our customers, to answer as clearly as possible your questions about the new tax system and how it will affect goods provided in ABC Shops and online.
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) effective since 1 July 2000, replaces the Wholesale Sales Tax. Since 1 July 2000, ABC Shops must charge 10% GST on all goods we sell and deliver within Australia. Some of our prices will fall and some will rise but no price will increase by more than 10%.
Below are some frequently asked questions about the GST.
How can I work out how much GST I am paying?
The retail price of each product, including GST, will appear on the price sticker or product page and your cash register receipt [included with your shipped order]. To calculate the GST component of this price, simply divide the price by 11.
Does the GST apply to purchasing Gift Vouchers?
No. You will not be charged GST when you purchase a Gift Voucher from ABC Shops (although the cost of domestic delivery will include GST). However, any goods purchased with the Gift Voucher will be subject to GST. For example: $50 Gift Voucher will cost $50 (no GST) and will allow you to buy goods, including GST, valued at $50.
Is GST included in shipping charges for orders intended for delivery within Australia?
Advertised delivery charges to addresses within Australia are GST inclusive. Addresses outside Australia are GST exclusive.
My order is going overseas. Do I pay GST?
No. The 10% GST is automatically removed from the purchase price of your products in the shopping cart when an international delivery method is selected. However while the Australian tax (G.S.T.) is removed from all international orders please be aware that your order may be subject to local Custom's duties and/or local taxes in the country of destination. Please check with your local authority to ascertain applicable rates. Any additional charge must be borne by the recipient.
How will the GST affect the Loyalty Reward Program?
The full purchase price (including GST) will be included in the amount credited to your Reward Card in the ABC Shop Rewards Program.
Will the GST affect customer orders?
All goods paid for at ABC Shops after 1 July 2000 will be subject to GST, even if they were ordered before 1 July.
How will ABC Shops handle refunds and credits?
Refunds and credits will be equal to the amount your paid, as shown on your cash register receipt. If purchased after 1 July 2000, any refunds or credits on products will include the GST amount you have paid.
